World Photo Day

Aug 19, 2022

Today in 1839 the French Government announces the invention of photography by Louis Daguerre. This 'gift to humanity' has since transformed society in so many ways. We could now see reality from a different time, preserved. First completed on glass plates, later tin, then gelatin film and finally on digital sensors that translate photons into 1s and 0s that become pixels on our lovely screens.

Photography for me is not only capturing the way light hits a mountain side but that moment in time. That 1/125 of a second of time is record, it is stopped and kept for as long as one maintains the medium it is record on. Capturing time is auxilarating, and mind blowing. We can record our reality using light and in doing so we freeze time. Slivers at a time. Of course cinema and movie film would branch off and balloon into more time being recorded for us to view and relive memories and experiences over and over again.

Everytime I view a landscape photo I took, I can smell the air that was there, I can hear what the audioscape was at that moment in time, and I can feel the air of that location on through my hair. That is what is magical about photography, it fires the pathways of memory and nostalgia.

Enjoy some of these photos of some of the best moments I have captured.
