Thoughts On Sitting in Your Car in the Rain

Jan 14, 2022

As I sit here watching what's left of the blue leach from the evening sky, the lights on the street in front of my house flicker on. The light spreads across the raindrops on my windshield like glitter, sparking gold and white with little hints of blue and green. It's pretty despite the cold. The cold is setting deeper into my skin, chilling me. I shiver.

I'd go inside, but the dogs will begin their howling and I'm just not ready to face the horde. I used the last of my cash to buy dog food today. They'll be happy, which makes me happy, if just for an instant. The rain is falling harder. I'm not thrilled about lugging 50lbs of dog food across the street and up the stairs in the rain. The bag is slick when wet and harder to carry. It's not even the weight so much as the bulk. The bag's almost as big as I am.

I feel a bit defeated sitting here. Usually my car is my quiet space, but tonight all of my thoughts are restless like vengeful ghosts returning to haunt me.

What to do when you don't know what to do...
