This story happened to my daughter's classmate. The girl Alena came to the 1st grade after kindergarten. Alena could not read and write. Her mother, when she sent the child to school, thought that the teacher in the class would teach her this.
In May, at the end of the school year, her mother was told: unfortunately, Alena cannot study at all, she never learned to read and write.
According to the results of the test work, the child was not transferred to the 2nd grade. 😱
The teacher said: yes, I noticed it back in December, that Alena does not want to do anything at all. 🤷
The teacher did not tell her mother about this problem! As a result, the mother found out that her daughter was not being transferred to the 2nd grade only at the end of the year. That is, throughout the year the teacher could not teach the child to read.
Here the question is not what mother did and where she looked, but that the teacher is not interested in teaching children.
Alena was sent this year to a correctional school (children with developmental disabilities usually study in such schools, Alena has no deviation - the child is healthy) school again in the 1st grade. In fact, the year is lost. 😔
For the entire school year, the teacher never called her mother and did not tell her about the situation.
In the 1st grade, our children are not assigned homework and are not graded. Instead of ratings - stickers. For the whole year there was 1 knowledge test. At the very end of the year, although 3 teachers in other classes (there were 4 first classes in total, that is, 4 teachers) conducted 3 knowledge tests for the whole year.
They checked the reading technique (at the end of the year, the child should read at least 25 words. Diana, my daughter, reads 50+ words. From our class, 3 children read in syllables and did not pass reading)
For me, a big indicator is that in the middle of the year we the class came a boy who does not speak Russian at all.
The teacher had a panic 🤯 - she did not know how to teach this child. The boy studied in the classroom for 5 ❗❗❗months - he does not understand Russian and does not speak. Nobody teaches him. Unfortunately, we do not have Russian as a second language in our country.
This is the kind of teacher we have, so I immediately transferred my daughter to a more experienced teacher.
