Looking through the mirror of Matriarchy ...

Looking through the mirror of Matriarchy Times’ year-long journey with pride

Nov 06, 2023

In a world where everyone’s being is wholly interwoven by the three temporal dimensions, past, present and future, all of this and all of us, one way or another become stories in the end. Throughout the chapters, amongst the conflicts, there’s always room for plot twists over which the individuals have total control. Because in essence, us being stories is the profound and dynamic nature of human existence, where each individual is both the protagonist and author of their own story. But somewhere back in the history of civilization, the wretched frame of patriarchy has embodied their conspiracy in the social system, stealing the authority and power of all the women over their own lives so that men can manipulate the story of women, keeping them oppressed and devoid of steering. The corruption isn’t even comprehensible to the great majority of the people including vulnerable women themselves all over the world because justifying statements are well established within the society that “Men are naturally dominant”, “Male violence is natural and biological”, “Patriarchy’s inevitable and universal”. But the rational groups of warriors who could see through the patriarchal illusions abundantly exist in every corner of the world and here we are, Matriarchy Times, writing our story unapologetically sharp and loud foregathered as a movement to fight back patriarchy and its widespread shadows. Of all the stories being written here and there, a few outshine as remarkable which are worth remembering for their exceptionality and this is our story.

Matriarchy Times was founded by Sahara Gallos in October 2022 as a feminist newsletter that discussed global issues of gender-based discrimination, latest news of incidents that were arisen as a means of addressing feminine values, cycle breakers around the world primarily focusing various important concepts of feminism. Feminist enthusiasts were illuminated by the exclusive context of the newsletter reaching them as readers with the collaborative effort of Sahara and Vinuka Pussepitiya who engaged in aspiring the vision as a designer and social media manager at Matriarchy Times. The vision of Matriarchy Times extends beyond ordinary feminism. It is in fact an influential movement rather than a mere awareness assistance. Women being treated as an inferior sex, being abused in copious direct and indirect means ranging from domestic violence, rape to pivotal gender pay gap and moral double standards are the demons Matriarchy Times was willing to fight against in order to build a world free from male dominance and violence. Thus, the change we envisioned was nowhere near liberal feminism that drove us towards divergent aspects. The alternative we longed for was sheer Matriarchy because settling for everyone’s favourite gender-equality is just the patriarchy-driven fear of experiencing no equality in the society. In the modern world, the ability to shape perceptions is solely reliant on the media. It's evident that the media constructs and deconstructs narratives. Those in command of the media hold sway over the masses. The concept of the name "Matriarchy Times" arose from our aspiration to transform it into a fully-fledged media platform devoted exclusively to women's issues and matriarchal concept, akin to how the Financial Times specializes in economics. As our newsletter readership expanded, we established a platform for our members where they can engage in discussions, seek answers, and participate in various community activities. It was our aim for this community to embody matriarchal principles. Our dedicated guiding figure, Sahara assumed the role of spearheading the development of this community. In April 2023, we undertook a rebranding effort with the goal of reaching a wider audience and attaining recognition in mainstream media. Consequently, we launched an official website and extended our team. Farrah Fernando came on board as a community moderator, while Gayanjalee De Silva joined us as a content writer and editor for Matriarchy Times. Amidst all the chaos of challenging stereotypes across the media, it became our collective responsibility to empower women out there with no voice and men who are not ignorant to stand women getting constantly beaten over a generational curse.

This October, we mark the one-year anniversary of our movement, Matriarchy Times. From the outset of our journey, we've understood that simply advocating for a “gender-equality” in an environment where a woman's entire existence is controlled by the desires of men was an expenditure of valuable energy. Instead, we aimed to progress towards a peaceful, egalitarian society where women play a central role in social, political, and cultural affairs, holding primary power. Matriarchy however, was not very known in the public when we started and it still is thought of as hypothetical or unstable. Hence, Matriarchy Times always ensured our readers were clearly persuaded that subservience does not certainly come naturally to people; It is rooted by the patriarchy and focused on educating them on what exactly is Matriarchy, how it is different from patriarchy, especially how it is clearly not the reverse of patriarchy. Presently, our vibrant community has grown to embrace more than 60 dedicated members. We've crafted and shared over 40 thought-provoking articles that have resonated with an audience of over 6,000 followers collectively, spanning our presence on three prominent social media platforms: Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn. In the near future, we are excited to extend our reach to TikTok, Telegram, and WhatsApp channels, opening up new avenues for meaningful engagement. Throughout our journey, our articles have explored the profound tenets of matriarchy, delved into the continuing existence of matrilineal societies scattered across the globe, celebrated the significance of goddess worship, and unearthed the compelling anthropological evidence supporting the existence of ancient female warriors. We've also had the privilege of spotlighting modern, unapologetically empowered feminists who stand unwaveringly in support of matriarchy, demonstrating their commitment to this cause.

As we celebrate the first anniversary of Matriarchy Times, it's a perfect moment to reflect on the deep bond between matriarchy and the Triple Goddess, and how this connection has practical implications for our growth and impact, especially in terms of nurturing and empowering the youth. The Triple Goddess, with her three distinct phases of Maiden, Mother, and Crone, mirrors the multifaceted nature of matriarchy. This symbolism aligns seamlessly with the principles of matriarchy, which seek to celebrate and empower women at every stage of life. The Maiden phase of the Triple Goddess represents youth, potential, and new beginnings. This is analogous to the youthful energy and the fresh start that Matriarchy Times signifies at its one-year anniversary. We have the opportunity to harness the enthusiasm and vigor of youth, fostering their potential to be change-makers and advocates for gender equality. By empowering the youth, we not only ensure the continuity of our movement but also cultivate a generation that values and promotes matriarchal principles. The Mother phase represents fertility, nurturing, and the fullness of life. In the context of "Matriarchy Times," this phase can be seen as nurturing the growth and development of our community and the broader movement. Like the Mother's role in sustaining life, we aim to nourish our mission and provide support for our members and allies. By offering a space for discussion, learning, and activism, we can nurture the growth of matriarchal ideals and practices. The Crone phase symbolizes wisdom and reflection, embodying the accumulation of knowledge and experience. As "Matriarchy Times" evolves and matures, we can look to the Crone for guidance. We can draw from the wisdom of our experiences and the lessons we've learned to refine our approach and strategies, making them more effective in advancing our cause. This cyclical approach aligns with the Triple Goddess and matriarchy, ensuring ongoing progress and growth. As we move forward, we keep the Triple Goddess and matriarchal principles at the core of our mission, recognizing their practical significance. This anniversary marks an exciting beginning, with the potential to empower the next generation as torchbearers of matriarchy.

In celebration of our first-year anniversary, we are excited to introduce "Matriarchy Times Learning" – a dynamic platform designed to empower our members through education, awareness, and a deeper understanding of the matriarchal concept. This learning platform is not just about providing knowledge; it's about cultivating a supportive community that nurtures and inspires its members. Through engaging quizzes and thoughtful gifts, we aim to foster a space where our members can connect, learn, and grow. "Matriarchy Times Learning" is the culmination of our commitment to building a female-led future, and it plays a pivotal role in our ongoing mission to educate and spread awareness among our members. This platform is the ultimate destination for those who are dedicated to the cause of reshaping our world to embrace and celebrate the power of femininity.

As we anticipate the future, we recognize that our path to a matriarchy may be challenging, but we remain hopeful and steadfast in our purpose, knowing that the support of our members is a wellspring of strength and inspiration. For eons, women have been told how to be and not to be, manipulated by men who deliberately tried to convince them that females are naturally subordinate. It’s like conserving a precious giant tree that was globally tortured to reach near extinction, but we, at Matriarchy Times have now already planted its magical seeds far and wide, taken care of the plants and are committed to encounter them grow, branch and reach fruition. This journey has only just begun, and every member is a warrior in the fight against a social structure deeply ingrained in every institution. Together, we are building a world that not only acknowledges but reveres the intrinsic power of femininity. The wisdom of matriarchy itself provides us with a guiding light, and with unity, determination, and a commitment to learning, we look forward to a future where the matriarchal spirit thrives.
