KNTFL Wrap Round 14

Aug 22, 2022

The minor rounds are over and now the buisness end starts as the Kowree Naracoorte-Tatiara Football League played their 16th and final home and away round for 2022 on the weekend.

Lucindale finished on top after the minor rounds and put in a strong performance by defeating the Kingston Saints by 48-points. Henry Tregoweth banged through five goals and Hamish Gordon kicked three of his own as the Roo's were in control of the game for most of the day. Bradley McCarthy, Tom Logan and Scott Foord-Spriggs were really strong contributors all game long for the Roo's. Kingston tried to stay close as Todd Lockwood kicked four goals and James Siviour kicked three to help. Jake Wehl, Henry Lawrie and Ben Rogers were the Saints best players as they fought all game long.

Bordertown withstood a big second half fight back by Border Districts to record a solid 13-point win. The Rooster controlled the play in the first half and were able to open up a 51-point half time lead. The Eagles hit back in the second half by kicking eleven goals to five to get back in to the game, but they left the run too late. Thomas Whittlesea kicked five goals and Tom Neville kicked four in the win. Jacob Eats, Sebastian Trenorden and Tom Neville were the Roosters best players. Harrison Pretlove battled hard for the Eagles as he put through five goals. Mitchell Coles kicked four goals to help out. Mark Quinn, Fraser Adams and Dre Stirling were the Eagles top contributors.

Keith pulled away in the second half of their clash against Kybybolite to come away with a sound 38-point win. The Crows were not having it their own way for most of the game as they led by 19-points at the last change. The Crows were able to run the game out in the last quarter and get the points in a tune up for the finals. Lewis Hender with five goals and Billy Wade kicked four of his own as they combined to do most of the damage for the Crows. Lewis Hender, Jonathon Wilson and Daniel Bibby were the Crows best player. Stephen Craig capped off a great season by kicking seven goals in a great losing effort for the Tigers. Brad Castine added three goals to help keep the Tigers in the game. Stephen Craig, William Thorp and Brad Castine were the Tigers best players for the game.

Penola recorded their second win for the season in a great come from behind victory against Padthaway. The Eagles trailed the Lions by nine points at half time, but kicked eight goals to two in the second half to end their season on a winning note. Bradley Merrett was outstanding with nine goals in the victory. Bradley Merrett, Bradley Bryant and Jacob Robbie were all important in the victory and no doubt celebrated in to the night. For the Lions, Joshua Miller had a great game in front of goal with six majors. Will Rivers, Joshua Miller and Thomas Edwards were Padthaway's best players.

Naracoorte recorded a strong victory over Mundulla at Mundulla by 37-pointsas both teams looked to get some run in the legs before the finals start. Sam Bates, Rory Taggert and Sam Willson each kicked three goals to help the Demons get across the line. Lachlan Bowler, Bart Nolan and Keenan Jacobs were the Demons best players in the victory. James Hinge was a lone hand in front of goal for Mundulla with four goals. Dylan Mosey, James Hinge and Hamish Young were strong contributors all game for Mundulla.

The Finals kick off this week and on Saturday the Qualifying Final will see a great contest as Keith will play Mundulla at Kybybolite. Both teams have had good season's so far and this game should be a cracking contest. Mundulla won the first match up in round one by 19-points, but the Crows were able to turn that result around in round ten by winning by 11-points at Mundulla. Mundulla will be hoping to have their full side to choose as they have had a couple of injury concerns. Jake McGrice has not played on four of the last five games and his loss is huge as he is a provern finals performer. Mundulla's length is a concern for the Crows if they are at full strength as Darcy King can play anywhere. James Hinge is also hard to stop if he gets going. The Tigers back line is also strong, especially if Lachlan Duell plays. Tom Gaden also can become a constant rebound machine as he was in the Grand Final last year. Keith on the other hand have been the best team in the second half of the season. The Crows have many scoring options in Billy Wade, Lewis Hender and George Johnson. Daniel Bibby has had an outstanding season and is a midfielder who can put scores on the board when called upon. Seb Schreiber, Seamus McMurray and Tom Geyer lead a strong defensive unit who can help the Crows shut down opposition scores. George Thring adds a lot of SANFL experience to the line-up and will be a key player as well. I find this game tough to pick the winner off and last year's Preliminary Final was a close fight. I'm picking Mundulla just in a tough fought contest, only if Jake McGrice is fit to play. If he isn't there on the field, the Crows might be able to take full advantage and get over the line.

The Elimination Final on Sunday should also see a tough good contest when Naracoorte play Kingston at Lucindale. Naracoorte ran the Saints off their feet in their most recent contest in round 14 as players like Rory Taggert, Sam Willson and Matt Willson were given too much space when the game was in the balance early and they made the Saints pay. The Demons have been in some great form as they have some weapons to hurt any team. Matt Willson, Joshua Gregg, Aaron Slorach and Keenan Jacobs are really dangerous if you give them room to go to work and get running. The Demons also have Rory Taggert, who can bust open packs in the forward line or go in the midfield and dominate in there. Rory has had a great season and would be one of the favourites for the league medal. Kingston also has some weapons of their own. They own a multi-pronged forward line attack as Todd Lockwood and James Siviour can cut a defence to shreds if they get free and mark within range of goal. They rarely miss set shots. The Saints really need to find some other avanues to go to stick and compete with the Demons. James Siviour was the big reason the Saints won their round five clash and the Demons would be switched on to stop him from getting the ball. Kingston has some hard-nosed midfielders in Henry Lawrie, Jed Castley and Tom Rogers who do the dirty work inside. Ben Warner can be swung in there as well to add class to the midfield group. Kingston also looks to get the ball in to the hands of Brett Simpson and Campbell Watts who are the quarter backs of the team and often launch plays from half back. Naracoorte will look to shut that run down. Naracoorte will start favourites based on their current form, but Kingston will fight the game right out and will look to take any advantage they can get from playing on the Lucindale oval two weeks in a row.
