One of the best known meteor events is coming very soon. The well known Perseid meteor shower happens when Earth's orbit passes through debris left behind by comet Swift-Tuttle. The peak is expected to occur on August 12/13.

Although the meteors continue many days either side of the peak, the Perseid's peak is quite pronounced and well worthy of outdoor viewing if the sky is clear.
Look for the big "W" of Cassiopeia, which is quite easy to identify and you will clearly see the meteors every few minutes.
