Feb 16, 2021

After a whirlwind 2020 celebrating two decades together and the release of their ninth studio album, Silverstein are announcing plans to kick off 2021 with an immersive live stream virtual concert series in February. The band will play songs from their extensive catalog across three weekends. Fans will also have the opportunity to purchase meet and greet passes with the band here.

Each show will be available on-demand until 1 March after airing.

Alongside the performances is also an international music conference, the Trans Asia Music Meeting 2021. Taking place in various locations, the festival will be woven together through live-streaming, which will remain free of charge for international audiences.

While the world slowly reopens (or gets into another lockdown, depends on which part of the world you're from), expect more virtual concerts and festivals to come your way.

An ever-adapting community, artists and concert producers alike have shifted their craft online. 2020 saw the rise of virtual shows from the likes of  , and  Concerts and festivals were hosted within video games like Fortnite and Minecraft, while massive shows enhanced by the use of AR (augmented reality) and XR (extended reality) garnered millions of views from across the world.

The bluegrass festival calendar is always thin in February; this year it’s almost vanished.  Things pick up as spring approaches though, and we’ve updated the calendar through August.  Given the uncertainty about when things will open up for large crowds, all these listings should be considered preliminary.  For each month we now show a list of festivals scheduled for 2020 that haven’t posted information for 2021.  We want to make this the most complete bluegrass, roots and old-time festival listing on the web, so if you have information on an event, let us know so we can add it to the list or modify what’s there.  Check back often, as we add new shows when we find them.

Updates:  March.  The Minnesota Bluegrass & Old Time Music Association can canceled its March  festival. The  in Florida will be a “socially distanced event,” with some of the artists who were slated to appear at the 2020 festival.  The  is going to be a one-day dinner theater event celebrating the new book   The  will be a one-day free streaming event.  The in NC moves to September.

As always, it’s definitely a good idea to call before making travel plans.  We’re tracking all sources of information and will update event status on this site as often as we learn of changes.   If an event is listed as CANCELED, it will not be held this year.  If it’s listed as POSTPONED, the sponsors are hoping to reschedule.

The international section of the calendar shows dates that have been announced for 2021.

“Bluegrass festival” is a broad category, encompassing everything from old time fiddlers’ conventions to jamgrass gatherings.  We’ve provided links to the festival websites so you can check the lineups, schedules, admission fees, facilities, whether there’s camping, jamming etc.  We don’t list festivals for which we can’t find a valid link.

So pack up your instruments, load the camper (don’t forget masks and hand sanitizer) and hit the road!  And listen to A Bluegrass Morning weekdays from 7 to 10, when Jonathan Fine brings you updates on festivals and shows around the country.
