Last year I wrote a blog post about a project I started to backup the movies I’ve collected in MP4 format by burning them to DVDs. The idea was, rather than just copying the files directly to DVD, I would make them into DVDs that I could play on a standard DVD player.
Although a little slow, the project has been progressing. Of the several hundred movies I have spanning a handful of multi-terabyte hard drives, in the past year I’ve been able to produce about 150 DVDs. Each DVD has two movies on it, apart from a small handful that contain only one (due to the movie’s duration). I’ve been making the DVDs in spurts, running my burning rig for a week or so, then taking a break for a while, then doing another week long session.
