Wrong Sewing Tips:

Jul 28, 2021

LAST WEEK I ASKED YOU GUYS ON OUR FACEBOOK WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THIS SEWING TIP FOR KNITS TO PREVENT WAVY SEAMS.

THE FIRST ONE TO ANSWER CORRECTLY WOULD WIN A 50% COUPON TO USE IN OUR SEWING PATTERN SHOP!!

AND ALTHOUGH A LOT OF YOU WERE RIGHT SAYING THAT THE PROBLEM OF THE HEM WAS WRONG TENSION THE CLOSEST ANSWER WAS FROM CHRISTINA ALDEN-BARONE :

"WHEN YOU WASH IT’S GOING TO GET BACONY AGAIN."

And that was the closest answer to the question asked: What was wrong with this sewing tip?
The tip implies that the solution for a wavy knit hem seam is pressing it. And even though the seam will absolutely look flat after pressing it, they are not taking into consideration that due to the stretched material (caused by a wrong tension and wrong differential feed settings) the garment will increase its original size.

When your knit fabric gets wavy like this it's because it was stretched during sewing. This means that if your original hem measured let's say 5" after pressing the waves and forcing them to be flat now your hem will measure 7". 8".

This not only deforms the original design but also messes with other pieces of your garment that might be attached where the problem lays.
