What would Jesus do?

Nov 15, 2021

Thought I'd try writing on a different topic today..

As someone who was raised Christian, and doesn't claim the title anymore, but still has a wealth of knowledge on theology (even beyond what I was taught), I often feel compelled to speak up when self proclaiming Christians are spreading inaccurate info about the Bible.

It makes me think they haven't read it for themselves at all, they just repeat what a pastor or their parents said the Bible says.

In this case, I want to talk about what Jesus would actually do, not what they think he would do.

Jesus took direct action:

Matthew 21:12-13 (KJV)

12 And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves,

13 And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.

Jesus spent time with sinners:

Matthew 9:10-13 (KJV)

10 And it came to pass, as Jesus sat at meat in the house, behold, many publicans and sinners came and sat down with him and his disciples.

11 And when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto his disciples, Why eateth your Master with publicans and sinners?

12 But when Jesus heard that, he said unto them, They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick.

13 But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

(I encourage anyone who's interested to read the full chapters, of course).

Jesus represents perfect kindness and compassion, now, ask yourself, how many self proclaiming Christians are trying to follow that? Not that anyone can be perfect, but there's a difference in that, and going on a crusade, and using the Bible as an excuse and as a weapon.

If all, or even most of them were trying to embody Christ, we wouldn't have so much religious trauma in the world.
