I'm launching a zine!
Odd Monster originally launched in 2017 as the public facing brand for all my creative focused endeavors, and over the years it has evolved to focus on custom-made clothing featuring my illustrations. Fast forward to 2023, with me becoming more and more dissatisfied with the current state of social media and how things are shared and circulated online. I was sick of depending on “the algorithm” and paid posts that determined what I saw, and how much reach my own posts had.
My first thought was to do an email newsletter - but who really wants another one of those clogging up their inbox? In keeping with the retro vibe of Odd Monster, I landed on the idea of doing something the complete opposite; something physical I could send out to people that they could hold in their hands. I wanted a physical object that was 100% offline to share with others the knowledge I’d gathered about the clothing printing process, and a look into my illustration and design workflow.
From this grew the seeds of an idea to reach out to my local community, and partner with businesses and groups of similar interest and vibe in the immediate area. I hope that this little zine will highlight some of the awesome venues, artists and events we have in this rainy coastal town of Astoria, Oregon.
This initial issue will highlight some of the information I've already posted here about my illustration and printing process, but at least half of it will be brand new. It's meant to be a companion piece to my BMaC page - something for people who like to hold physical things in their hands and enjoy the printed page.
The goal is to publish 2 a year, one in October, and another in the spring around April/May.
