Claudia Emanuel shares her story

"Moving to Sicily, Italy, I struggled with the language barrier. I first arrived on the island from South Africa in June 2017 and stayed for 3 months. It was beautiful yet very challenging. After the first two weeks, when the holiday euphoria wore off, the real life challenges started to weigh in. As an already slightly introverted person, an additional barrier in communicating caused me much anxiety and stress. Despite this, I started to explore the possibilities of working in Sicily and leaned on my photo and film production experience. I worked on some great jobs that season, including an episode for 'Chef's Table' on Netflix. I returned to Cape Town, South Africa, for the summer and started working at a large film production company. When winter came around, I traveled back to Sicily and got married to the man who inspired my Sicilian adventure in the first place... making Sicily my permanent base! Now I have two jobs in Sicily - one is very seasonal and that is working alongside my husband running a successful film and photo production company. We have traveled to all corners of the island and mainland Southern Italy to facilitate international film and photo productions with amazing crew. The other 'job' that I have allows me the flexibility to move and travel. This is my own business where I am able to work remotely online. I have developed this business over these past two years. I work with creative entrepreneurs who offer digital products and services that are ready to take their business to the next level! I help them to be brilliantly visible online all the time through content marketing strategies and by managing their Pinterest presence. My personal interests include kiteboarding, horse trekking, yoga and learning Italian. I have been studying Italian now for nearly 3 years - and as it improves, so does my self-confidence.
