How to be more productive working at home

May 08, 2021

Hi there!

Working from home can often be very difficult if you don't have strategies. Isn't it?

A year ago, when I came to live here on the farm, I would get up from my chair all the time to see what had happened. The dog barked, the goat screamed, someone called me ...

It was chaos. As much as I had a routine, it wasn't helping.

Over time I realized that it was not enough for me to have a routine, I needed to be smart to be able to work from home. Here are some tips that helped me a lot.

First of all.

Turn off WiFi

You need to turn off the WiFi if you want to do some deep work. If you need to do some research, pre-determine the time you will spend researching and set an alarm. This measure may seem extreme, but it is super effective.

Second

Time chunking

Chunking is the concept of breaking up your day into larger chunks instead of reacting to constant interruptions.

Start small until you get the feel of it. Pick a single task. Set aside the 30 minutes you know it will take. Ignore the phone. Don't check email. Just do it.

Third

Wake up at dawn

For me, it was the perfect solution. I have no interruptions, no noises and I can concentrate on what I am doing. In my case, it was not enough for me to wake up early to work. Because here at the farm, the day starts early, so I have to take care of animals, plants, and everything. So I joined work at dawn and in the hottest hours of the day, I take a nap.

Remember

- Focusing on one task at a time helps you do a better job faster.

- When you start to do a task, keep it until it is finished.

- Track your time. I use super productivity and I love it.

"The best way to work from home is to plan your own agenda, organize your peers, make bigger promises, show up often, lead, connect, innovate and ask hard questions. And then do it all again."
