The Korea Gas Corporation said on the 26th, "Coach Kang maximized the strength of the team, which was considered the weakest before the opening by showing soft leadership and excellent leadership," adding, "I highly appreciated the fact that he showed a strong performance with various tactics."
The contract period between Korea Gas Corporation and Kang is two years.
Coach Kang has led the team in an acting capacity since former coach Yoo Do-hoon left the team after the 2022-2023 season.
Korea Gas Corporation set up a team by spending only 69.2 percent of the total annual salary for the team, which is far below the 2.8 billion won cap. As of August last year, Korea Gas Corporation was the only team among the 10 teams whose total annual salary for the team does not exceed 2 billion won.
Despite the unfavorable conditions, Korea Gas Corporation did well in defiance of expectations before the opening of the season. It ranked seventh with 17 wins and 26 losses. It beat out Sono (14 wins and 28 losses) of Goyang, Sono (14 wins and 28 losses), head of Anyang City's defending champion (13 wins and 29 losses), and Samsung Seoul (9 wins and 33 losses).
Coach Kang made a name for himself as a top guard during his active career, including being selected as the MVP of the championship game in the 2005-2006 season.
After finishing his career at Incheon Electronic Land, the predecessor of Korea Gas Corporation in 2013, he joined the Korea Gas Corporation's coaching staff through Samil Sango and Changwon LG coaches, and this time he was promoted to the head coach.
