The Sacramento Kings, which Murray belongs to, won 125-104 at home against Utah Jazz in the 2023-2024 NBA regular season at Golden 1 Center on the 17th (Korea Standard Time).
On the day, Murray showed off his keen sense of fingertips with 47 points and eight rebounds including 12 three-point shots. Not only did he break his career high in scoring, but he also recorded 12 three-point shots, which is his personal best as well as the NBA's most three-point shots this season. The number is tied for fifth in NBA history.
Curry led his team, the Golden State Warriors, to a 124-120 victory over the Brooklyn Nets. Curry, who was in charge of the team's victory with a strong clutch performance, came across Murray's incredible shot performance at a press conference after the game.
When Curry heard Murray made 12 of his 13 3-point attempts, he looked surprised, saying, "He did something," and his face was full of smiles.
"I remember Clay [Tamson] going crazy when he threw 21 3-pointers and threw 14 in the third quarter. When I had 13 [three-pointers], I dominated the game," he recalled of the record he and Tamson set.
"If the opponent finds out that he has a sexy fingertip sense, their eyes are on him. Murray should maintain it during the game," he said.
"12 out of 13 [three-pointers] are crazy. You have to find the sense you had throughout the game, and it's hard to keep it," Murray said.
Sacramento was still playing during Curry's press conference. Curry wondered if Murray's record was the youngest in the NBA and kept asking reporters for statistics related to it.
By the end of the press conference, Curry announced that he would be watching history make itself at the Golden One Center. Unfortunately, Murray did not add a 3-pointer in the fourth quarter and did not break Tamson's record.
Meanwhile, Tamson holds the record for the most 3-pointers in a game in NBA history. Tamson scored 14 3-pointers, including 52 points, against the Chicago Bulls on October 30, 2018, with 4:53 left in the third quarter. The previous record holder was Curry, who scored 13 3-pointers, including 46 points, against the New Orleans Pelicans on November 8, 2016.
Therefore, when Murray finds out that he shocked Curry, dubbed the best three-point shooter in basketball history, he is expected to smile satisfactorily.
