I keep thinking about this Anne of Green Gables quote "Isn't it nice to think that tomorrow is a new day with no mistakes in it?" Granted, I have Anne on the brain a LOT because our first Owl's Nest Classics reprint will be Anne of Green Gables so I am knee deep in all things Anne (I know! I know! I'm so so so so so so excited, too!). So that quote may be bouncing around in my head because of my Anne immersion. But even so, that quote feels significant to me as we start this new year.

It's not like 2021 was filled with all sorts of mistakes. But, the end of the year was filled with a lot of...misfortune? That feels a little hyperbolic. You know what I mean though. From about the middle of November onward sickness abounded. A new year feels like a fresh start (COVID having entered our house notwithstanding. But that happened on the 31st of December. I REJECT that energy for 2022). So, Tomorrow is a New Day with No Setbacks in it. Does that mean there won't be setbacks? Surely not. If I've learned anything from Anne it's that she made many mistakes, and she made them every day—they were always just new mistakes. Anne is full of optimism despite her many hardships; it's why she's such a kindred spirit to me. We don't know all of what 2022 has in store for Owl's Nest, or for Karin and I personally. There will surely be frustrations and setbacks. But ultimately, I'm full of hope and excitement and anticipation for the year ahead! Here are some things I'm looking forward to for Owl's Nest this year:

  • holding our first hardback in my hands

  • getting our first good review

  • selling our first book

  • getting our very first manuscript submission

  • finishing our edition of Anne of Green Gables (of course!)

What an exciting year ahead! HAPPY NEW YEAR, Nestlings!
