Strange Things

One of the most successful ploys of the enemy in modern culture is over-stimulation. American Idol, Britain's Got Talent, YouTube, FoxNews, NetFlix, SiriusXM, Spotify... there are countless sources of noise in our lives. The information never ceases, and with it comes the shock factor. Nobody is trying to pedal news about the norm. It's fringe that sells! The crazier, more bazarre, the better. Sadly, we often become numb to anything extraordinary - good or bad. If I were to tell you had I a video of a bird riding a German shepherd, you likely wouldn't even click a link. You've seen it before. It's not exciting. So what?

God speaks to us often through the curious things of life. If we are not paying attention, we miss Him.

Exo 3:1-4
(1)  Now Moses was keeping the flock of his father-in-law, Jethro, the priest of Midian, and he led his flock to the west side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God.
(2)  And the angel of the LORD appeared to him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush. He looked, and behold, the bush was burning, yet it was not consumed.
(3)  And Moses said, “I will turn aside to see this great sight, why the bush is not burned.”
(4)  When the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called to him out of the bush, “Moses, Moses!” And he said, “Here I am.”

Curious indeed! Don't you love verse 3? Who recorded that? Moses? Or God? It's like Moses was sitting amongst his friends at the lunch table, recounting this unprecedented story... "I was like... walking along and then I saw this bush on fire! And I was like... I will turn aside to see this great sight!" And all his friends were glued! "Then what??"

If Moses had just shrugged it off as simply an odd thing, God likely would never have spoken. After all, it was a desert, and things were dry, and some nomads probably forgot to put out their camp fire... "When the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called to him..."

The challenge is this. Pay attention to the odd things. Be intentional about how much noise you'll allow. Leave room to be surprised. Invite Him to speak through the amazing, and get ready for an encounter unlike any other!
