Kingston got their first win of the season over Border Districts on Saturday when they won by 40-points at Gall Park.
Border Districts jumped out of the blocks quickly with the opening goal through Nick Schild to get the Eagles going early. Mark Quinn had plenty of touches in the contest. Travis Burns got the reply and first goal for Kingston as he roved a ball and was able to kick the goal to get the Saints first goal. Border Districts then started to control the play as they had many chances to put goals on the board. Mark Quinn and Jack Helyer were the driving force of the inside 50's and the Eagles needed to take advantage of this. The visitors finally got another goal to push to a 9-point lead when Nick Schild goaled and the Eagles looked up for the fight. Kingston recruits Jed Castley and Todd Lockwood had started well and were looking good for the Saints. Kingston started to get on top as Brett Simpson kicked a goal then James Siviour goaled after some great work by Ben Warner opened up the goals for him to convert. Jack Harding kicked another for Kingston as they went in to quarter time 8-points ahead and full of run.
The second quarter was a huge difference than the first as the skill level from both teams dropped away and both sides made easy mistakes that you wouldn't see in a junior's game. Plenty of bad kicking and decision making from both sides. Both backlines were on top with Campbell Watts, Jake Fisher, Brett Simpson, Harrison Marrison and Ben Rogers really shinning out for the home team and holding up the Eagles forward thrusts. Dylan Auciello, Brayden Denmead and James Baron were doing the same at the other end of the ground for the Eagles as both sides were just trying to hold the other team up and get to half time. Neither side were able to kick a goal in the second quarter. Kingston led by 9-points at half time.
Border Districts got the great start in the third quarter as Mark Quinn got the early goal as the Eagles looked to get on a run. Mark Quinn and Jack Helyer were in the packs early trying to get the ball going the Eagles way and it was working in the early part of the first quarter. Ben Warner found Tom Rogers for the great mark and the quick reply as both sides started to use the ball better and the game was opening up. Campbell Watts was picking the Borders team disposals off as it seemed the Eagles kept kicking the ball to him like he was a magnet. Only problem for the Eagles was, he is a Saints player and was controlling the game from half back. Todd Lockwood who had many good touches in the game, got another goal for Kingston as they went in to three quarter time 15-points ahead and looking like they were starting to get on top. Borders had a few shots late in the quarter, but couldn't convert. Jake Fisher, Harrison Martin and Ben Rogers were really solid in defence for the Saints. Jake Wehl, Brett Simpson and Campbell Watts were linking up nicely whenever they needed to get the run going from half back. James Baron, Brayden Denmead and Brodie Adams were battling away for the Eagles, trying their best to get the visitors closer.
Kingston started the final quarter on top as they took control of the midfield early. Ben Warner set up Travis Burns for the early goal. Campbell Watts then passed to James Siviour who found Ben Warner for another goal as the Saints had opened up a 27-point lead and were in control of the game. Tom Rogers was playing another hard and tough great game as he kicked a goal for the Saints and when Travis Burns got another, the Saints were on their way to a strong win. Kingston ended up winning by 40-points in a bounce back performance coach Brad Richardson would have been happy with. The new backline set up with Jake Fisher moved to centre half back looking like a really good one. Campbell Watts was outstanding and really helped for a strong defensive effort by the Saints. Jake Wehl and Brett Simpson provided the run needed to drive the ball from the back half of the ground. Ben Rogers was also strong in the backlines; he took many saving marks and made the spoils when needed. Dylan Auciello, James Baron and James Baron had very solid games for the Eagles. Nick Schild looked dangerous at times in the forward line, but the Saints defence did a great job of not letting him get too much room.
