Preparedness Tip #23 - What Risk Are You Accepting?

Our dependancy on Critical Infrastructure (CI) is necessary in today's modern life. This is not the agrarian 18th century, and we are very thankful for that. So with you understanding what CI is and acknowledging your exposure and evaluating that, we move onto the concept of risk. Risk is simply defined as the probability x severity if something occurs in the future. So what level of risk are you assuming by accepting a lifestyle that has that degree of dependancy to CI? For example, if you do not own motorized transport, live in a major city and take public transport - what is your level of risk assumed. by solely relying on the provision of transportation services? What is the risk? We call this building your own risk profile - an analysis of the exposure to and risk assumed by relying on a sector of CI - important for your preparedness plan.
