Why are Labour basically giving up in Tiverton & Honiton to the Lib Dems?

Labour won't be campaigning for their candidate in the Tiverton & Honiton by election, despite coming second in 2019. So Starmer has told his frontbenchers not to bother going to Tiverton and Honiton to campaign for Labour and to basically let the Lib Dems get on with it in Devon as two by elections to be held on the same day come up. Tiverton and Honiton is of course vacant after the resignation of Neil Parish, the Tory MP caught watching p*rn in parliament and this is taking place on the same day as the by-election in Wakefield, where Starmer has parachuted in serial parachute candidate Simon Lightwood to challenge for the seat. The thing is, it doesn’t make any sense for Labour not to push forward in this seat. In 2019, despite everything said about hat election, Labour came second, not the Lib Dems. In fact the Lib Dems have been hammered into third ever since 2010 when they chose to put the Tories in power. That said, the seat has always elected a Tory and by some margin, but do Labour have no ambition then to even try? Why bother even stand a candidate then? Would that look to much like making a pact with the Lib Dems, or would it reveal more about Labour’s financial woes than first thought? It’s no secret, especially since many of us disgusted at Starmer’s excuse for a leadership have talked at length about it, that Labour is in serious financial trouble, verging on bankruptcy in fact. Is the financial situation the reason for not putting much effort into the Devon seat? Either way it demonstrates an appalling lack of ambition from a party that thinks it can win a majority. Now Wakefield was traditionally a Labour seat, it lost it at the last election as it did many Red Wall seats in 2019 largely due to Starmer’s stupid People’s Vote sabotage which, in a Brexit election, handed Boris Johnson that 80 seat majority. It’d be pretty perverse if he were to win it back. The sum total of Starmer’s ambition is to win back what was lost in 2019. Whether that’s due to party finances, his fixation on getting one over on Jeremy Corbyn still living rent free in his head, a total lack of ambition beyond that, it seems crazy that Labour won’t try to win every seat going.
