This poem is not a happy one, but it expresses (almost) everything I have to say about gun violence in our country. As of May 28, 2022, there have been 216 mass shootings in the United States.

It’s strange.
Strange how your thoughts and prayers do nothing
even as you speak from a podium.
(but perhaps that’s the best place to hide
behind false gods and monstrous laws.)
Go on–pray for the victims of the red, white, and blue.
Mourn on Twitter and offer platitudes to the brokenhearted
so you don’t have to do a damn thing
as you collect money and power and votes
and watch your people die.
(one day we’ll realize
it isn’t strange at all.)
