Many folks know about the hoodoos or toadstools along Hwy 89, between Page, AZ and Kanab Utah, but there are a group of lesser-known hoodoos on the rim above that very popular trail. To get there, you have to drive along Cottonwood Canyon Road, in Grand Staircase Escalante, to the trailhead. These hoodoos are sometimes called the Hoodoo Forest, and it requires scrambling down rattlesnake ridden rocks to get there. If you choose to visit these hoodoos, please be aware that Cottonwood Canyon Road is a dirt road, and can be in great shape like it was when I visited, or terrible shape, such as after heavy rains. Check with the Paria Outpost before driving the road to find out what kind of shape it's in.
