ABOUT THE FLUTE: The flute M. was playing is a quena (sometimes spelled Kena in English). It is the traditional flute of the Andes. It is made of wood and is open at both ends of the instrument. To make a sound, the player must partially close the top end of the flute with the skin under the lower lip, and blow down the axis of the flute. The tongue and lips are used just like a regular recorder. The finger positions are very similar to the recorder. M. came to learn to play the quena while traveling in Peru/Bolivia in the early 70's and hearing Andean traditional music. ABOUT ME: My name's Roxy, and I'm a free spirit who truly struggles with living in one place. I've been like that my whole life. Society can try to force us into living a certain way, but we're not all cut from the same cloth (thankfully), and being 'stuck' in one place for years or a lifetime, is impossible for us to embrace. That's why I live in a van. I love to see different wildlife, new horizons, meet new people, and experience new things. I photograph, write, and share on my blog
