Autumn in Amsterdam: A time of change

Autumn in Amsterdam: A time of change

Oct 25, 2020

Hello, I hope this blogpost finds you in good health and spirits. I wanted to share some of Amsterdam's beauty that is currently surrounding me in the autumn. The fall is a season of change and to me a time in which I wish to step out of my comfort zone and take on new challenges.

I have always wanted to live closer to the natural rhythms of nature and the autumn allows me to just do that. As the days start to become shorter, I feel more of my energy turning inwards: it becomes easier to check in with our inner worlds. Just as how the Earth prepares itself for the colder winter months, we need to prepare our minds and bodies as well. the autumn is a time of reflection and a time of letting go of all the heavy things that have been weighing our bodies down for too long. I invite you this fall to reflect on the things in your life that are draining your energy instead of boosting your energy. I hope you can find the strength to let go of whatever is no longer serving you well.

As you can see in this photograph that I took just a few days ago, the sky is slowly turning grey and darker. Before, when I had just moved here from Dubai, the grey sky would upset me and I would crave the bright light of Dubai that would always awaken me and make me feel uplifted. Over the years of living here in Amsterdam, I have re shifted my mindset and I now view the greyness and gloominess in a more positive light. Instead of letting it upset me, I have created a home for myself with candlelights and heat to nourish my body and calm my mind. The grey days mean that I sleep longer as the sun does not awaken me and as a result, the body get’s to catch up on the sleep it may have missed out on summer. The stillness and lack of light makes my mind go quieter and allows me to find more creativity in the here and now. As there are little to no distractions, I am encouraged to look within myself for creativity and reconnect with the inner world of feelings.
