KNTFL Wrap Round 13

KNTFL Wrap Round 13

Aug 01, 2022

The Kowree Naracoorte-Tatiara football season is fast approaching the finals part of the season with only three rounds left after Saturday's round 13 clashes.

With the results that happened on Saturday, the league is in for an exciting finish to the minor rounds as mathematically only two teams cannot make the finals. There will be many key clashes that will decide the positioning in the finals over the next three rounds.

On to Saturday's results now and Mundulla had a tough win against Kybybolite by 16-points. Kyby stuck with Mundulla all the way for the match, but the Moots were able to kick clear a bit in the fourth quarter and record a much-needed win. William Nankivell kicked four goals in the victory. Darcy King, Jacob Grosser and Devon Ridgway were Mundulla's best players. Stephen Craig continued his consistent season for Kybybolite as he added another three goals to his season's tally. William Russell, James Bittner and Thomas Jennings fought hard all game for Kybybolite.

Kingston booked their finals place with a scrappy slog win against Padthaway. The Saints won by 15-points in a low scoring game that both teams found tough to get goals in. Ethan Murdock and Ben Warner put through two goals each for the winning Saints. William Watts, Campbell Watts and Ben Rogers put in great games for the Saints. Padthaway had a hard time finding any dangerous goal kicker as they have only single goal kickers in Tarquin Brown, Joshua Miller, Tom Moyle-Read and Kiefer Sharkie. Thomas Cooper, Will Rivers and Tom Moyle-Read was consistent all game for the Lions to be named their best.

Bordertown kept their slim finals hopes alive as the Roosters recorded a strong 30-point win against Penola. Jacob Eats starred in front of goal win four majors. Lochie Eats, Rory Tink and Tom Neville were the Roosters best players. Bradley Merrett put through six goals in a fighting effort for Penola. Drew Clayfield kicked four of his own to help out. Bradley Merrett, Brock Egan and Scott Merrett were the Eagles best players. The difference was the contributors in scoring goals as the Roosters had seven players who shared the goals, the Eagles could only find three players to help with the score load.

Keith won their eight game in the their last nine outings as they continue to look to lock away the double chance. The Crows faced Naracoorte who were also looking to get a win to book their own finals spot. The demons started well and led by 13-points at quarter time. The Crows had a strong second quarter to lead by three points at half time. Keith got a break in the third quarter and went on with it in the fourth quarter to run out winners by 29-points. Lewis Hender kicked four goals and William McMurray kicked three as these two impacted the Crows goal kicking list the most. William McMurray, Louis Green and Jack Jones were the Crows best players. Rory Taggert slotted three goals for Naracoorte in a fighting effort. Rory Taggert, Josh Gregg and Keenan Jacobs were Naracoorte's best players.

Lucindale had a strong 50-point win against Border Districts. The Roos started with a big first half as the Eagles again had a slow start for the second week in a row. Lucindale continue to search to put away top spot for the finals as the minor rounds come to an end. Josh Trembath kicked five goals in the victory. Hamish Gordon helped out with three of his own. Dylan Auciello and Blake Helyer kicked three goals each in a losing effort. Border Districts last two weeks have been disappointing after their upset win over top five side Kingston. Slow starts really killed them in both results.

Round 14 and with only three rounds to go, every game become vital for many teams' chances for either making the top three or making the finals altogether.

Kingston host Naracoorte in the game of the round. The Demons are looking for the finals sealing win, while the Saints are chasing a top three spot now that their finals spot is assured. There will be some great match ups and the Demons will welcome back Matt Willson in to the team. Saints will start favourites at home. Expect the game to be close like their clash earlier in the season.

Lucindale will be red hot favourites against Kybybolite at home. The Roos will be looking to lock away another win as they look to finish top of the ladder for the Finals. The Tigers were much better last week and will put up a big fight, but expect the Roos to have too much depth for the young Tigers.

The rampaging Keith Crows host Bordertown Roosters and both sides will be fired up. The Crows want to finish top three, while the Roosters have a very slim finals chance and must win every game left. The Crows would be expected to win comfortably, but the Roosters will leave nothing in the tank trying to get across the line.

Mundulla host Padthaway and the Tigers need to keep winning to seal the double chance. The Lions need to win to stay in finals contention. The Tigers are missing a couple of key players, but have been able to get across the line the last couple of weeks. The Lions also have a couple out, but for their sake they would be hoping they return soon. The Tigers will start warm favourites, but the Lions did beat them earlier in the year. This should be close.

Penola host Border Districts and the Eagles would be hoping to end the Eagles season..............The Penola Eagles are searching for their second win of the year and will be looking to finish off the Border Districts Eagles season. Penola haven't had much to celebrate as far as wins this year, but they have always shown up and played in the right spirit and put in a contest. Border Districts have enough talent to challenge anyone on their day. Borders will be red hot favourites, but don't be surprised if an upset happens here.
