Musical Pillars in Hampi

Vijaya Vittala Temple is famous for its marvelous architecture. It is also known for another extraordinary architectural marvel – 56 melodic columns or musical pillars. These pillars create melodic sounds when tapped delicately. Each of these emits sounds from different instruments. The most intriguing thing is that the columns are constructed using stones. It is said that the British even cut one of the pillars to see what is there inside but they only saw empty pipes. The musical mainstays of Vittala Temple are also called SAREGAMA pillars.
