My only Choice

My only Choice

Nov 14, 2022

There’s one, if any. In any given bathroom I am lucky to see even one accessible stall. One that has enough room for me if I’m using a wheelchair. It’s not easy to find. It’s always in the back, through the crowds of people needing the bathroom. It’s the only one that has grab bars.

I don’t really get a choice in the matter, my body requires I have grab bars or something to pull myself to standing with. At home, a sink works just fine.

But at school? Out and about?

Those grab bars, that accessible stall, is necessary. It’s the one bathroom I can use.

I know there are invisible disabilities. I know that’s normally where the changing table is located. I know you have strollers and kids.

That’s not my point.

My point is, it’s the one stall I can use. So respect it. Don’t vandalize it. Don’t hang out in their with your friends during a break in class, maybe I actually need it. Don’t take it just for the extra space, it’s really not worth it when there are five other stalls available to you. Because you have six options, but I only have one. Please don’t spend 20 minutes vaping and learning a tiktok dance in the one stall I can use, it isn’t fair.

Respect that some of us only get one choice.

Love,

Mikayla
