The Lord’s Prayer

Facts

Most popular prayer in all Christianity. It is recited all around the world. Most popular version is the Catholic version. Daily prayer either in the morning or the evening. Most say it when feeling lost or without purpose. John wrote it under the direct inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Prayer is the opening of one's heart and soul in a conversation with God. The Lord's Prayer is the pattern for prayer Jesus taught his followers. Teaches us how to pray. It is an expression of faith in a relationship with God. Jesus prayer often. It is also called Our Father Prayer. The Lord’s Prayer is a prayer that many people misunderstand. We aren’t supposed to say it word for word as it has some magical power to it, God is interested in our hearts when we pray not really by the words we speak.

Matthew 6:6-7 Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)

6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. 7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

We need to pour out our hearts to God.

Philippians 4:6-7 Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)

6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Our Father Who Art in Heaven

·         Jesus teaches his disciples that God is our parent in heaven

·         What a blessing to call God our Father

·         The Father is in heaven, his dwelling place

·         He is our Father, and we are his humble children.

·         You praise God as your Father and lift up His name as holy.

·         God in heaven is your spiritual Father

·         God’s name needs to be sanctified

·

Hallowed Be Thy Name

·         Hallowed means Holy

·         God is completely pure and faultless

·         The term "to hallow" means to recognize as holy, to treat in a holy way

·         If we truly hallow the Father, then we respect him in our hearts, and so enter into God's plan for us and our salvation.

·         We recognize our Father's holiness when we pray

Thy Kingdom Come

·         God’s kingdoms is to do with His ways and orders

·         we ask that God's will be done within us

·         His kingdom brings righteousness, peace, and joy in the presence of the Holy Spirit; and you are asking Him to usher these values into the world.

·         God will send Jesus back to earth again to set up his kingdom.

Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven

·         You align your will with God’s will

·         We submit ourselves to Him

·         We recognize that he is in full control, and we submit to his authority

·         God is just and kind, and He sees what is best for you in the long run, so you seek to submit yourself to His will.

Give us this day our daily bread

·         We need God in all areas of our life

·         A daily need

·         God to meet our needs. He will take care of us

·         We depend on God our Father to provide what we need for today

·         The Father who gives us life gives us "our bread," the nourishment life requires, both material and spiritual.

And forgive us our trespasses

·         We remember the ways we have failed God and ask Him for forgiveness

·         begin our confession as sinners and need of mercy

·         Forgiveness for our wrongdoing

·         recognize that we need his forgiveness, and confess our sins

As we forgive those who trespass against us

·         We receive God’s forgiveness, so we can forgive those who have hurt us

·         we desire to be forgiven, we must grant that same forgiveness to others.

·         Ask Him to wash away your sins, while reminding you that you should let go of your grudges and anger

And lead us not into temptation,

·         Don’t give into temptation

·         Don’t be in a place where temptation may come upon you

·         Strength to resist temptation

·         Asks God not to allow us to take the path that leads to sin.

·         God does not tempt anybody

·         We need strength from God to resist temptation

But deliver us from evil.

·         Depend on God when evil is at the door

·         Jesus recognizes the LORD as His source of deliverance

·         God will provide protection from danger

For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, forever and ever.

·         a short hymn of praise

·         Declare His power, trusting that everything is possible with Him

How do you pray the Lord's Prayer?

Quiet your thoughts and focus them on God. ...

Praise the Lord's kingdom and desire its fulfillment: "Thy kingdom come." ...

Next, trust your life into the hands of the Lord, saying: "Thy will be done in earth as it is in heaven." ...

Ask God to help you with your daily needs by praying: "Give us this day our daily bread."

2 different versions

The first one is the shorter version:

Luke 11:2-4 Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)

2 And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth. 3 Give us day by day our daily bread. 4 And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.

The Second one is the longer version:

Matthew 6:9-13 Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)

9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. 10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

I wrote this because I didn’t understand this prayer and by breaking it down. It makes more sense, why it is the most popular prayer in the Bible.
