Every writer has their own process when it comes to writing and how they go from a single idea to a completed short story or manuscript.
I develop an idea by brainstorming several times. Then writing a first draft. Depending on the amount of research needed, I either do research after a few brainstorms or even after the first draft.
The first draft most times has more freestyle writing and freeform before I go through and shorten parts and reword others.
Writing is a creative process. It differs person to person. Writing can come easier to some people, or struggle to put words on the page. It can be personal and sometimes writers are self conscious about another person viewing their work.
There is a lot of work that can go into a single short story, let alone the hours a writer will spend on a book manuscript.
