How to calculate NET Carbs

Dec 31, 2020

“Net Carbs” refers to the carbs that are absorbed by the body.

To calculate the net carbs in whole foods, you subtract the fiber from the total amount of carbs.

To calculate the net carbs in processed foods, you subtract the fiber and the sugar alcohols.

Why do we subtract Fiber and Sugar Alcohols?
Fiber is different in the way that it is digested and effects your body. It is not absorbed by your small intestine. It passed directly to your colon.

Sugar alcohols are almost processed the same way as fiber with a few differences. One, they are only partially absorbed in the small intestine others are consumed, very briefly absorbed then discarded in your urine.
