Biophilia: Path with Art Veterans Cohort 2020

Jan 09, 2021

Biophilia:  "a hypothetical human tendency to interact or be closely associated with other forms of life in nature : a desire or tendency to commune with nature Biophilia is the term coined by the Harvard naturalist Dr. Edward O. Wilson"

I was honored this past year to be allowed by Path with Art to teach a small cohort of fellow veterans the basics of woodturning and collaborate together on a small instillation called Biophilia. The concept came to me as a spire of metal orbited by various wooden spheroids. Each student designed their own "spheroid" that connected to them personally.

Obviously, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, classes were held via zoom instead of in person at Pratt as planned. So I ended up turning all the pieces for the students and sent them to the students to add their finishing touches to. They all had some great designs that I am eager to see completed!

They will be arriving back in hand soon as I am starting the metal work for the sculpture. Then I will schedule the installation at the Path with Art HQ in Seattle. Stay tuned!
