A continuation of "Eva 3.0"? Take a closer look at "Until You Come to Me.".

Japan Anima(tor)'s Exhibition (*1), until You come to me ~The Concerted fragments by Tatsuya Kushida Esquisse and music~(*2).

*1 ) A short film series project presented by Studio Khara and Dwango. Every Friday, we will release one episode of an omnibus animation work created with love and energy by various directors, regardless of genre, including original projects, spin-off projects, promotional videos, and music videos. Through this project, we would like to provide a "free place for creation" where there are no restrictions on expression, and explore the possibilities of future video production, including planning and development, research and development, and human resource development in Japanese animation production. (from Dwango Press Release on December 19, 2014.)

*2) The 7th piece, "until You come to me." is an animated film directed by Sadafumi Hiramatsu, with art by Tatsuya Kushida and music by Shiro Sagisu.

A scene that seemed to be a continuation of "EVANGELION: 3.0 YOU CAN (NOT) REDO." was released without warning.

It was quietly released to the public, and the Internet was abuzz with talk about it. However, looking at the reactions on Twitter and 2chan, the atmosphere was different from the past.

"I won't be fooled," "I won't believe it," "I won't be baited by it!"

One of the reasons for the rejection was the trailer for "3.0" that was released at the end of "2.0". There were a lot of meaningful scenes that appeared one after another, but in "3.0," hardly any of them appeared. There is a theory that it might be an event from the blank 14 years. Even so, I thought, "That's not a trailer.".

Hideaki Anno has been calling the bluffs in his direction for some time.

"There are people who read too much into things that I didn't intend and assume that it must be this way. I think their guesses are wrong, though." ("Schizo Evangelion")

Moyoco Anno and Hideaki Anno while watching "The Nutcracker" in the August 11, 2014 issue of AERA.

"A lot of people are concerned about consistency in the story, but as my wife [Moyoco Anno] says, there are a lot of things in the world that are just extremely difficult to understand or stupid and unreasonable."

The fans are getting used to it, and I'm starting to feel, "Oh, there's no point in thinking about this part.". Still, the consideration itself is fun. Let's take a quick look at some of them.

The winter that never existed in the world of Eva has arrived.

The world of the anime "Evangelion" is summer all the time.

It's winter in this short film. Something that looks like snow is falling, and Shinji looks cold. In the comic version of "Eva", winter comes in the last episode.

it's surprising that a video (short film) about winter would come at a time when the last volume of the comic has just been released.

Crossover between Soryu and Shikinami.

The biggest shock for me this time is this part.

In the scene that seems to be Shinji's memory, "Soryu Asuka Langley" from the old Eva and "Shikinami Asuka Langley" from the new movie appear. Until now, there has been no mention of "Soryu" in the new movie version. This means that the Shinji in this short film also knows the timeline in which "Soryu" was in. Soryu...you were there...

Blue ocean and Red ocean.

The only blue ocean that appeared in the new movie version was the Marine Ecosystem Conservation and Research Institute in "2.0," and basically, it was all red ocean. In this movie (short film), blue ocean and red ocean appear alternately. The old Eva and the new Eva are mixed together .

Disappearing Ayanami.

Rei Ayanami from "3.0" (not the Rei Ayanami we saved in "2.0") appears in the middle of the movie. Her body melts and she disappears. It's completely unclear why she disappears this time (she doesn't need to disappear after "3.0").

The ocean, Shinji and Rei in the last scene.

At the end, we see the blue ocean and Shinji in his "3.0" plug suit. It's summer. Rei Ayanami in her school uniform appears as if in the shadow. This is the same scene as the beginning of the first episode of Eva. The possibility of a "3.0 -> 2.0 (or episode 1 of the TV version)" route has arisen.

Danny Boy.

The song that was playing was "Londonderry Song". One of the songs with lyrics is "Danny Boy". It is a mother's song dedicated to her son who is going off to war.

The summer's gone and all the roses falling.

'Tis you, 'tis you must go and I must bide.

But come ye back when summer's in the meadow,

Or all the valley's hushed and white with snow.

'Tis I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow.

It can be considered as Yui's point of view. I mean, isn't this the music video for "Danny Boy", using Eva as the story?

Hideaki Anno: I think it's also good to depict that in the world of fiction and dreams. I think that's also service and entertainment. (AERA, August 11, 2014)

As a fan, I'm just happy that there was a new fuel throw for Eva, that's all. I've got to say, I got served. So I want to say. " I won't be fooled!"
