Just this

Jan 08, 2020

"In any moment, everything is the only possible expression it can be. Seeing this doesn’t make everything pain-free or flow in a pleasant way. It simply acknowledges that, in any moment, life is whatever it is, and it’s not personal." -- Darryl Bailey, Essence Revisited: Slipping Past the Shadows of Illusion (pp. 18-19). New Harbinger Publications. Kindle Edition.

What is your actual experience of this moment?

Do you even care?

It's fine either way -- no, really -- but too often, we're distracted by everything else and find ourselves living in our heads.

Arghh.

But (in case you hadn't noticed) we're so much more than our thinking: we're our emotions, feelings, our sensing, our seeing, our touching and our ability to smell. Also, we have a complex body (apparently) that goes on doing its thing; it doesn't complain, even in times of illness: it just does what it does.

I realise that this is at odds with how we understand things to operate but when I ask people to go their direct experience of this moment, absent thinking (I don't mean not to think but to consider what is there when there is no thinking), they nearly always, after a degree of contemplation, say:

"Just this."

Are they're right.

There is just the happening of this moment.

Nothing else.

I realise that that doesn't help much when you're caught in a whirlwind of emotion, but if you are able to consider that this moment, much like everything else in nature, is doing its thing, and there is no doer but something being done, perhaps then you might let go of the need to control everything.

But then again, you might dismiss all of this and carry on with business as usual.

Much love ❤️, Ju.
