Coffee in the time of Corona

Mar 23, 2020

I don't know how many times I've written this but these are strange times we're living in.

I'm currently in the Philippines, in the provincial town where I grew up in (Apalit, Pampanga) and I haven't left the house since March 14 (which is actually my birthday). Pres. Duterte placed Metro Manila under a community quarantine that day, and placed the entire Luzon two days after.

Every day, more and more cases of COVID19 are being reported and I'm witnessing how the world is slowly shutting down, with businesses closing and operations stopping. From a global perspective, it feels scary to see this pandemic play out. And from a local perspective, it feels slightly odd to be back at your hometown and see how it affects everything.

Most of my contracts have been paused and it's alarming, knowing that independent contractors like myself don't have the safety net of employed individuals. Still, I try to keep my spirits up by living each moment with as much gratitude and hope I can muster.

One of the things I'm grateful for is that I'm with my whole family and my partner here in Apalit. These strange days, that's enough for me.

P.S. If you're inclined to buy me a cup or two, it would most certainly be welcome 😉
