Endings and Beginnings.

Endings and Beginnings.

Feb 24, 2021

So currently I'm running a Curse of Strahd game. Its very nearly coming to a close. The party are in Castle Ravenloft and are making their way right to Strahd himself. Or so they hope.

How it should end.

I really hope they become the heroes. They have these dark gifts that are making them more and more inclined towards evil tendencies. This is making me question exactly how I should end the campaign. Do I force them to enact on these evil feelings and rule the lands for themselves? Do I let them somehow shake off the evil powers and feelings? Do they figure out a way to deal with it themselves? Do they even kill Strahd?

All these are things I have to consider in the following weeks as I'm sure it wont actually take them long to find Strahd, or just stumble upon him.
I have a feeling they wont get a long rest in before the fight him. Its likely this is the last day they'll adventure in Barovia with the BBEG looming over them. A short rest perhaps but who knows if they'll even get that, the castle itself is relentless and doesn't take kind to people trying to leave.

Wrapping it all up.

I'm the kind of DM who likes telling my players things they missed or things they might not have figured out, secrets that existed, things I improvised, all of it. I know its not the best idea and its likely I wont be doing it when it comes to homebrew adventures but for this, its fun to let them know how things could've gone.
I think I would like to have all the characters decide what they end up doing in the days following Strahds defeat. And lets not sugar coat it, he will get defeated, the PCs are really strong at this point. They have so many dark gifts they can do a lot of damage to Strahd. I Just have to use his abilities wisely in order to make the encounter seem difficult. There is always the chance some of them might not make it but its not likely they'll TPK.
Whether the PCs decide to leave Barovia, stay and help out for a while, or stay indefinitely, I dont mind. I dont think we'll see these exact characters again for a while and even if we do, they might just so happen to lose all memory of Barovia once they pass through that misty veil.

Where's your head at?

My head is totally in the clouds about Theros lately (pardon the pun). It truly is. I cant stop thinking about all the cool locations, how the different gods are going to react to the players choices, how their characters are going all be banded together and for what great cause? I still dont know. But I have so many ideas about where to start them and the first call to adventure. Im almost sure they'll start in a city. One of the main three. It really depends on the gods they choose to worship the most and also some other things. Meletis is easy to start things off and also lets me have a sea adventure early on which sounds awesome. Something stolen from a temple perhaps? or someone missing? we'll wait and see what the character backgrounds give me to run a story to pull all the players in.

Dont forget to follow along over on twitch.tv/mitchaked Saturdays 8:30pm JST for the Strahd campaign conclusion!
