The Importance Of Hydration

By Jo Watt

Did you know that our bodies are 60% water and our blood consists of 90% water!

Our bodies need adequate water to function and staying hydrated is a super important form of self care.

Since I learnt Touch for Health Kinesiology and began working with energy healing, I’ve noticed how our body creates a stress response when we aren’t fully hydrated. We need water to help us move the energy around our body, to regulate our body temperature, keep our joints lubricated, prevent infections, deliver nutrients to our cells and maintain proper organ function. We can go without food for a long period of time, however hydration is a must in order for us to survive.

It is recommended that Men need at least 3.7L of water per day & women need at least 2.7L of water per day. A simple way to accurately calculate how much water your body needs is to take your weight in pounds and divide it in half to get the appropriate number of ounces you need to drink. Eg 150 pounds divided by 2 = 75 ounces water you need to consume (2.1L Water)

While many people in the world don’t have access to clean water and our town water is filled with chemicals, the best way to get access to clear water is by using filter jugs which are a great option to filter out all the nasties. Some bottled water isn't as good as you think it is.

Room temperature water is best as your body doesn't have to work as hard to heat it up. For a morning routine you can have a warm glass of water with a squeeze of lemon and a tablespoon of Apple Cider Vinegar to detox your body, cleanse your liver and boost your metabolism.

If you struggle to drink lots of water every day you can change it up and add fruits and herbs to make it taste better and still have the added benefits of staying hydrated.

Try the recipes below for some ideas on how to make infused water:

Also homemade veggie juices are another great way to boost your energy and give you a good start to the day.

Here is a water exercise to get you into a habit of drinking more water:

  • Calculate how much water you need to consume daily.

  • Get a water bottle and draw 10 lines on it equally spaced out.

  • Set yourself a timer for every hour for 10 waking hours and drink to each line. By the end of the day you will have had your daily limit of water intake.

  • Do this for 7 days to make it a habit.

How many glasses do you drink per day?
