Robin Hood

Apr 22, 2021

Gray foxes are one of two species of canid that have the ability to climb trees. According to wildlifesciencecenter.org, they have rotating wrists and semi-retractable claws that help them climb up high to den, forage, or escape predators, however, they are not great at climbing down.

This specific pup, Robin Hood, was found alone and rescued by a jogger in central Costa Rica who brought him to the Toucan Rescue Ranch for care. Fortunately, he is healthy and will soon be able to be rewilded once he is old enough and learns how to develop his hunting skills.

You can help donate to his care at the Toucan Rescue Ranch here: https://cuddly.com/donate/4713727/robin-hood

BEHIND THE SCENES:
Because of his sly fox abilities, capturing this photo was rather difficult. Between crouching down in the vegetation of his pre-release enclosure, surrounded by insects, shooting through the leaves, and falling on my butt in the mud, I was grateful to have caught this moment in time.
