You are enough exactly as you are

You are enough exactly as you are

May 19, 2021

You are enough.

Not only do chronically ill people want to hear that what they "can" do is enough, everyone does. It just smacks a little harder for us because our "can" and their "can" are not defined by the same 'rules' if you will. Someone having the intellectual capacity to perform something, vs someone being able to clear their brain fog to do something, are very different. The former can get a tutor, the latter... not so much. Others can sometimes "blame" us for this shortcoming... "You can do anything if you put your mind to it." really can be a slap in the face.

However, YOUR perspective matters. Realizing that if you work hard enough, try hard enough, think positive thoughts... you still are not going to be able to do the thing, has a freedom all to itself. Accepting it is downright liberating.

You: Oh, no, I can't do that.
Them: Sure you can, just put your mind to it
You: In addition to that statement being ableist, it's also false. I could not fly no matter how much I put my mind to it.
Them: ...

How other people affect you, is truly up to you. Really wish it had not taken me FOUR decades of living to understand that but I'm super grateful now that I do. If you're not there yet, play around with your brain a little. When someone expresses disappointment in you, pull a Freaky Friday in your brain and know in your heart that if they switched with you... they would get it. If they jumped into you, exactly where you are right now, in addition to crippling them, it would give them clarity. Once you can find a way to let that knowing be enough, you will find a strength that will stay with you always.

What you can do is enough, if you let it be.

Make it a great day warriors 💛 the choice is always yours.

Love,
Dawn
