The Last of Hoover's 'Black Messiahs'

Jul 03, 2021

This #MRasheedCartoons image is the latest in a series commenting on the legal troubles of legendary comedian Bill Cosby. This one was inspired by the social media comments that they didn't care about Cosby because they didn't like how he was talking to Black people from his wealthy elitist perch anyway. This is a fair critique, since Cosby's view of the Black lower economic classes was that they weren't living up to an agreement that the community as a whole should be at our best so whites wouldn't have an excuse to treat us badly. The flaw in this thinking, of course, is that white treated us badly because they didn't want to give up the dominant economic position that they maintained by stealing our accrued inheritance wealth, so no amount of being "ten times more excellent than any white person" would EVER be good enough for them to finally start acting civilized where the Black American former slave class is concerned. But despite the flaws in Cosby's thinking, you can never say he wasn't sincere in his honest self expression in believing that what we needed to be our best selves was solid and courageous leadership... so he set out to do just that.
