Instrumentally Yours

Instrumentally Yours

Oct 26, 2021

One subject I’ll be covering a lot is music. It has great importance to me. I’ll explain more another time. Because of that, one might think that I play an instrument, sing or write music. I do sing some & in fact would like to be part of community theater. That’s something else I’ll talk about more in a later post.

As for instruments. I did take piano lessons for three years when I was a kid. My grandparents had a piano. I can’t remember how or why it was acquired. The only ones who played were a great aunt & great step uncle. Neither of which lived with us. My cousin later went on to learn & she did well.

My parents & especially my dad wanted me to take lessons. I did & I dreaded them. I did ok, but I didn’t care to practice. I’m guessing it’s probably typical. If you don’t have any enthusiasm for something, you’re not going to want to put the time & effort into it. Did that happen to you, maybe as a kid? You were pushed to do something you didn’t want to? Did you eventually warm to it or did you always hate it?

For me, I never could stand it. After three years the instructor moved away. Fortunately I wasn’t expected to continue with someone else. Back then someone told me that I’d later regret it. I never have. I figured if I had any real talent toward it or even just a passion for it, I would have wanted to stick with it. I can appreciate others who play. I’m just glad I’m not one of them.
