Intimacy
Intimacy changes once you have a baby. And I’m not just talking about sex, but if I’m being real, it took me a long time to be ready after birthing to be ready to have sex again.
But, in all seriousness being intimate once you have a baby is hard. It’s probably the most intense part of your relationship you’ll move through. Finding the time to be fully enveloped in one another when there is a little version of you both needing every piece of you is tough.
So what does this mean for your relationship ? It means you need to work harder. It’s easy to sit back and say ah I’m tired, maybe tomorrow? But remember, intimacy is again more than just sex. How can you find ways to be intimate ?
To us intimacy has changed , because now it’s making even the smallest moments throughout the day an expression of our intimacy. It’s the kiss hello from work, it’s the cooking dinner in the kitchen. It’s the breathing in one another while sitting on the lounge (sometimes with stevie inbetween) it’s showering together , and listening to the struggles of the day. It’s the touch of the hair and the whisper of I love you. Its every savouring moment you can get !
Don’t get me wrong , there are some days we both sit here mourning the life we once had , the freedom of being able to just soak one another in. It’s a normal part of transitioning into parenthood.
Even though we are parents now doesn’t mean we cannot be intimate in the way we once were. If anything it’s important to embrace that so much more. To remind one another just how much we value eachother in the roles we now play. To be examples for our daughter on how important every element of a relationship is. A sex positive loving environment. I think more of us need this reminder. I think our future generations need more sex positivity in their lives. Intimacy being the icing on the cake.
So when you get home from work today or your done tying up those last loose ends, go and tell your partner they are sexy and take a minute to feel their skin on yours. You can thank me later.
