Life lessons from the WTMU Master Course

Life lessons from the WTMU Master Course

Dec 05, 2021

I learned so much at the 80th International Taekwondo Master Course last month.

I learned that there is so little I know, and so much more to the art of Taekwondo that I've barely scratched the surface on. I was reminded to practice what I preach, to constantly study and continue learning, and to always live out the 5 tenets of Taekwondo: Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-Control, and Indomitable Spirit. Most importantly, I learned that the weight, responsibility, and duty of my master title is more important than others may ever understand.

I hope to continue living up to my master status, both in words and in practice. I hope to pass on the wisdom of my master, his master, and the message of Taekwondo and Kukkiwon in every class that I teach. Finally, I hope to remember that Taekwondo is bigger than ourselves; it's an art that will continue for generations after me.

If I could impact only one student to follow in my footsteps – train hard, fall in love with the sport, and live the tenets and be a role model for others – then I will have truly done my job as a Taekwondo master.
