Cold Hard Advice

Jan 03, 2022

The weather change has been so extra this winter. One day its 32 then the next it's 7 degrees, but the "Real Feel" is -4. This has gotten everyone to feel a little funky.

I would always take regular cold medicine and I would feel better with in a few days. We just don't quite have the convenience of running to the store anymore. We just have to make do with what we have at the house.

One of the things I did not get to do a whole lot of this year is foraging. The UP offers great foraging for medicinal plants and medicinal weeds. Hopefully this year we will be able to get out there and find some. Unfortunately this is out of the question as well.

Something we always have on that hand will do the trick, Bourbon/Honey/Lemon/Classic Tea! The alcohol in the Whiskey dilates the blood vessels, which makes it easier for your mucus membrane to deal with the infection, the Honey can soothe your throat, and can ease your cough. Both ingredients carry antioxidants. The lemon adds a bit of vitamin C and the hot water relieves nasal congestion.

3 Tablespoons of Bourbon

1 Tablespoon of Honey

1 Teaspoon of Lemon Juice

1 Tea bag

1 Mug full of hot water.

After pouring your hot water add in the rest of the ingredients.

There is millions of different ways you can make a Hot Toddy, I just used the classic recipe. In my picture I have a few of my favorite things. I used Eagle Rare Bourbon, which makes me a little boujee for using that.. hint the "Rare" part because you can never find it! Eagle Rare is a sipping bourbon, but it gives off a caramel taste so it made my drink extra good! We also used Sister Bees Raw Honey, Regular Lemon Juice, and Clover Valley Classic Tea.

Hot toddy's aren't one of those drinks that you throw down the hatch to get drunk. It is simply designed for a little R&R. (Rest and Recovery). You can enjoy this drink snuggled up by the fire with your pups listening to the Blues.

If you are looking for a drink that is non-alcoholic, look for my blog about Pine Needle Tea!
