SHOCKING: How Erdogan will use the Aya Sofya

Jul 13, 2020

Hagia Sophia or Hagia Sophia (Turkish: Ayasofya, Latin: Sancta Sophia or Sancta Sapientia), also known as the Church of Hagia Sophia or simply the Great Church, is a former Christian church, which was later converted into a mosque. and later in a museum.

Located in Istanbul. From 537 to 1453 it functioned as the city's orthodox cathedral, with the exception of the period 1204–1261, when it was a Roman Catholic church.

After the fall of Constantinople, it was converted into an Islamic mosque, and in 1934 into a museum (Ayasofya Müzesi). On July 10, 2020, its second historic conversion to an Islamic mosque was announced by a decision of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

At the point where the Hagia Sophia was built, there was a church of the same name built in 360 AD by Constantine I and Constantine II, which, however, burned during the Station of Nika in 532 AD.

It belongs to the leading creations of Byzantine church building, being a pioneering design and architectural composition, and was a symbol of the city, both during the Byzantine and the Ottoman period.

The present building began to be erected in 532 and was inaugurated on December 27, 537, during the reign of Justinian I, by the engineers Anthemios from Tralles and Isidore from Miletus.

The building follows the architectural rhythm of the basilica and combines elements of early Byzantine church building, on a very large scale.

Hagia Sophia's architectural influences are found in several later Orthodox churches as well as in Ottoman mosques, such as the Suleiman Mosque and the Sultanahmet Mosque.

Apart from its architectural design, Hagia Sophia also stands out for its rich interior decoration, which nevertheless suffered severe damage mainly by the Turkish conquerors during the Ottoman rule.

- "Aya Sofra!!! I will put a glass on top... tamam!!!"

The idea for the above color cartoon came to my mind little by little and went through various levels during the days from the statement of intention that the Hagia Sophia will become a Mosque, until the final decision of Erdogan himself.

Sofras, this small table that we find mainly in Muslim countries was the core of the whole composition. The decision of the President of Turkey brought the ... "up and down" regarding the attitude of Turkey in general.

Kemal's secular state is abolished and a new sultan takes over his fortunes.

The latest addition to this cartoon was the pun I put in Erdogan's mouth to emphasize his disrespect for a World Heritage Site that he uses cheaply for his small party audience.
