Confused between conjoined and contourney? Indecisive on invected or indented? Can’t tell your arched from your embowed? (*) Don’t despair, help is here! Every page on DrawDhield.net now has a helpful search box in the top menu - enter a heraldic term into the box and click “Define”. You’ll get a modal pop-up with a handy definition!

(*) Possibly my best line ever...

How does it work? The DrawShield website has long had a reference section containing the complete text of Parker’s Heraldic Dictionary, and Elvin’s Dictionary of Heraldry (amongst others). You can browse these books entry by entry from the "Refer" menu at the top, or even just improve your knowledge by asking for a random entry! But the DrawShield website also offers some of the functionality through an API, described here on the Github wiki and that is what is used here. That page also described the process by which both Parker's and Elvin's are searched for a matching term.

There is another search button inside each book, which allows you to search only entries in that book, and you also have the opportunity to read the front matter and appendices.

If there are other heraldry books in the public domain that you think would be useful to see in the DrawShield reference section please let me know.

I hope this is useful. Enjoy your blazoning!
