Galentine's Day

Feb 12, 2022

We all know Valentine's Day is for people who have romantic relationships; however, love is not all about being romantic. Love is extended to friends and family as well. So why not have a day which celebrates the love you feel for those with whom you aren't in a romantic relationship? That is where Galentine's Day comes into play!

What is Galentine's Day? I am sure some of you have heard the term, but do you know what it means? Galentine's Day is to celebrate your love for your lady friends. Whether or not you or your friends are single is irrelevant. The most important thing here is spending time with friends that mean something in your life. You can go to dinner, a movie, a picnic at the beach, or anywhere you all feel comfortable. The important thing is to have a good time and spend quality time together.

It's hard to see your friends when personal responsibilities or work schedules do not align. Sometimes you hibernate at home because you are so tired that all you want to do is to stay in your woman cave and enjoy some time alone. But if you are feeling down about Valentine's Day or think love is all about romance, then think again and celebrate your friends and the love you feel for them.

Your friends are the ones who warn you about the dangers they see when you are dating someone who may not be a good match for you. They warn you about fake friendships. They tell you the truths you may not be able to face, but you need to know. They whip you into shape when you are beating yourself down. They advise you if you adopt unhealthy habits. They cry with you when you break up with a romantic partner, break a friendship, or when you lose your beloved furry family member. They will comfort you during your most difficult moments.

They make fun of you when you trip because you saw a cute guy, but they lovingly do that. They sing out loud in the park with you, laugh, you create a language of which you and your friend know the meaning. They make you a wonderful Friendsgiving dinner and even make food for you that they don't normally eat. They are the biggest supporters of your hopes and dreams. They are happy for your accomplishments, a new job, a new position, a new place to live, a new tattoo, a new relationship, a new pet. It doesn't matter what it is; they are happy for you as long as you are.

I have amazing friends who mean the world to me. They love me for who I am, even if our views and beliefs are not always the same. They support and encourage me to make my dreams a reality. They are the ones I reach out to for advice, opinions, or just for fun. They were the first to read the stories I wrote for the children's books I hope to publish this year. If there was a doubt in my mind, they took that incertitude away, and I am thankful for that. Confidence is detrimental for a writer to possess.

I wish I could see them more often, but life does not always make that possible. I haven't seen one friend in many years, but we connect via social media. We chat when we can, and I enjoy our conversations. I wrote this today thinking about them. I hope they know how much they mean to me. How much I appreciate their guidance, encouragement, support, and most importantly, I am thankful to have them in my life.

So, this Galentine's Day, take the time to spend with your friends if you have the chance. Tell them what they mean to you. Have fun and make memories! If you can't be together on Galentine's Day, that is okay too. Be sure to reach out to them to let them know they are a part of your life. Any day can be Galentine's or Valentine's Day. Celebrate love daily. 💕
