What is Paleontology?

What is Paleontology?

Feb 28, 2022

When I give tours, I often get asked “What is Paleontology?”

Paleontology, also spelled palaeontology, is a scientific field of study that examines the history of life on Earth as based on fossils.

Fossils are the remains of plants, animals, fungi, and single-celled creatures that have been replaced by rock material or have formed an impression that has been preserved in rock.

Paleontologists study fossils to understand different aspects of the life, surrounding environment and death of both extinct and living organisms.
