Wash & Sets - Coloring Pages

It was while listening the song "Wash & Sets" that I had the idea of starting the "Everything is Beautiful - A Rhyming Coloring Book" project.

As I mentioned before, to me, one of the messages of this album is to hold dear to our inner child and this song sparked this thought.

The relationship between you and your inner child is so important because your inner child is looking to you to set it straight - and the kid knows you. You cannot lie to this kid. It knows all of your lies. You have to be sincere (...) and you have to say, look, I'm here for you now, and I am never going to leave you. I mean that. It's up to you, kiddo. You're on your own, so take care of yourself - RuPaul in Seeing Yourself Masterclass

About 2 years ago I was feeling very lost. I worked for a 7 years in hospitality and in an office and although I did my best, all of them felt... pointless. I paid my bills and managed to put a little bit of money on the side but the same question lingered: is this it?

While living a fast-paced life in London (2016-2019), there was a crescent urge to redirect my path. I remember the evening my mother reminded me of what I wanted to be when I was little: a kindergarten teacher. I realise the dream will only be gone if I do not go and find it.

This new journey just started and so much has already happened. I spent last summer in Timor-Leste teaching 10 and 13 year old girls and boys about Arts, Sciences, Portuguese and Music. Then I was accepted in uni to study Education and I am enjoying everything I am being thought. Throughout this year I also participated in two volunteering programs to teach portuguese to immigrant children and their parents (who knew teaching adults could also be a lot of fun?)

It still feels crazy to think I am on this happy trail. And all because I jumped the fence to spent a moment with my inner child, disconnecting from the "real world" and realising there is always time to start over - adulthood is really a myth.

In this illustration, on the other side of the fence, there is a playground inspired by the cartoon "Recess" (one of my faves). It also reflects my view about education: the importante of nature, to remain curious and the presence of the arts in school as a vehicle for critical thinking with a unique power of synthesis and connection with others. Education resides not only on the contents the child learns but even more on the thought and action competences one develops.

Princess Nokia dared to jump the fence to reconnect with her inner child. Her smile is half explosive and other half a bit scared. It is a radical act to make such a move.

This drawing is dedicated to our inner childs. Let it out while coloring these pages.
