Recently a few of comments from the Pope (or attributed to him) have lead me to believe that pursuing salvation from the evil one (or remedy by any other name) leads to the Church’s Door and how hard it is to find depends on the quality of the Church’s “Doorkeepers” to keep the evil one out and to let the people of God in.
The office of “Bouncer” in modern language.. the office of Ostiary: the Doorkeeper. Seems the “office” is vacant and Satan and his like have entered by the unguarded door. This ancient office within the Church required no ordination into the Holy Orders, and one if its duties is to guard the House of God.
Part of the ceremony in being appointed to this office includes the Bishop taking from the alter the keys to the “church” and handing them to the Ostiary candidate.
The Keys to the Kingdom, from Christ and his Spiritual minister to one of his temporal rulers one of the King of Kings - Kings.
Symbolizing that you have been given the power to loose those that love God and bind those that are the enemies of God (by use of an ecclesiastic court whose judgments will be enforced by the Holy See).
Just one of the ecclesiastic liberties that come with the job.. along with tax exemption, protection of your person (s), sui juris legal personality and the like.
Not sure you need to be Roman Catholic, just part of the Universal Church and finding its local “Provost” ….. it looks like the Anglican Church still uses Archdeacon as the name of the office..
Accept the office… and be the Bouncer of the Church.. relax .. and smile, the Vicar of Christ has your back, so you can contribute to conforming the Temporal Order to the Will of the Lord, Amen.
