"Every Child Matters" Paper Crane Chain Launch

Jun 28, 2021

In order to create more awareness and honor the Indigenous children lost in the residential school system, and to raise funds to donate to the Indian Residential School Survivor Society, I designed a special paper crane chain.

It features two feathers surrounding a red palm print, "215" and "Every Child Matters" as though being held/healing from the atrocities.

I used the well-known orange background, and I chose a red palm print for a variety of reasons: red, symbolizing the people from this part of the Medicine Wheel, red symbolizing the lives that were lost, red symbolizing the blood on the "establishments" hands, and red symbolizing the power and strength brought forward from our awareness. May the veil finally be pulled so that all people may heal from the trauma that has been inflicted and endured. This is recent history, as the last residential school closed in Canada in 1996.
